Can we cook our own meals?

Yes you can......

The cabin has a kitchenette with sink and a two burner gas cooktop, along with a selection of pots & pans.

There is a fridge with small freezer section, coffee machine, toaster and  microwave. We also have a Eco Pot for slow cooking and a large BBQ along with a Weber Bay Q which comes with a pizza stone.

As we are about half an hour out of town it is worthwhile planning your meals.

We supply oil, salt & pepper, milk, and some condiments along with a selection of teas & coffee bags. We also have a coffee maker & supply quality ground coffee.

There is a fire pit at the cabin which are you welcome to use with the firewood supplied.

Please note: fire ban rules apply at all.

Phone Reception

There is reasonable mobile phone reception at the cabin however we urge you to disconnect from technology during your time here to truly have a unique experience.

For those that require connection to Wi-Fi, we have a portable Starlink satellite which can be hired for $25 per stay. Advance notice required.

Exploring

There are wallaby track's along both sides of river, with a number of crossing points if the river is not up and flowing fast.

The river traverses through granite rocks with little waterfalls and pools. The platypus live in the bigger pools and if you sit quietly you should catch them feeding.

The best times seem to be early mornings and late afternoons.

Approximately 800metres down stream from the cabin is a larger pool with a picnic table – it is a lovely spot to take the picnic backpack for morning tea, lunch or drinks.

We recommend wearing good hiking shoes, a hat and water. Be wary of snakes, they are about during summer!

Is Platypus Bend pet-friendly?

You are more than welcome to bring your dog, our cabin is fenced and should be dog secure unless they are real diggers.

They are welcome in the cabin as long as they have their own beds and keep off the furniture. Please note: there will be a pet cleaning fee applied if required.

Dog minding for a small fee is available on request.

Can we use our own small appliances?

Yes you can - if you are considerate of the limited solar power.

The cabin is 100% off-grid, using  solar power for our electricity needs, and gas for cooking and hot water.

There is ample power to charge phones, laptops and the appliances provided, and whilst you can bring your own appliances, we do ask that you limit their use.

The best time to charge is during the day when the sun is shining and charging the batteries.

We do not have the capacity to charge an EV.

Water

Water is a precious resource here as we use tank water collected from the cabin roof.

Please be aware when showering, washing up or brushing your teeth to not leave taps running unnecessarily.
