Echidna spotting

About the Echidna (Tachyglossus)

Did you know that a baby echidna is called a 'puggle'?

They are one of only two monotremes (egg laying mammals) found in the world - the platypus is the other...and both can be spotted at Platypus Bend Eco Retreat.

The echidna prefers ants and termites but they also eat earthworms, small beetles and the larvae of moths and beetles.

They use their sticky tongue, which can extend up to 18cm beyond the tip of its snout, flicking it in and out rapidly to scoop up their food.
