Platypus Bend Eco Retreat - Prolific Wildlife Experience

Platypus Bend Eco Retreat is a wildlife experience unlike any other in Far North Queensland. Purpose built for tour groups, Platypus Bend can cater for up to 70 guests in our open-air cafe overlooking the Johnstone River.

Our property stretches across 180 acres of beautiful rolling green hills with more than 40 acres of tropical rainforest inhabited by Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos, Wallabies, Pademelons, Possums, more than 150 species of birds, numerous butterflies including the beautiful Ulysses and Cairns Birdwing.

We also boast a 95% success rate in viewing Platypus along our 2 kilometre frontage of the pristine Johnstone River. Guests who have never seen Platypus before are delighted to find how easy it is to spot them at Platypus Bend.

We are located just over 1 hour from Cairns. It's a gorgeous scenic drive to the pleasant altitude of 2500 feet at the foothills of Mt Bartle Frere on the Atherton Tablelands.
